Multifunctional Polycrystalline Ferroelectric Materials – Lorena Pardo & Jesús Ricote (Eds.)

This book was born with the aim of increasing the awareness of the wide range of properties of ferroelectric materials among the different communities working on and with piezoelectric ceramic materials and devices based on these.

Ceramics are key materials in a large percentage of devices using piezoelectricity in myriads of applications. This well-known fact is frequently accompanied by a lack of in-depth understanding of the important role of the ferroelectric nature of such ceramics. As they are polycrystalline, non-centrosymmetric materials their piezoelectricity is induced by the so-called polarization process, based on the principle of polarization reversal by the action of an electric field that characterizes the ferroelectric materials. This book presents a wide number of selected topics on processing and properties of ferroelectric materials that are the current centre of attention in scientific and technical research.
