About Us
CanopusBooks.com is the website for Canopus Publishing and its sister company, Canopus Academic Publishing.
Founded by Robin Rees in 1999, Canopus has built a reputation for producing and publishing high quality books for the science market, with a strong emphasis on titles in astronomy and astrophysics. Highlights include Bang! The Complete History of the Universe, by Brian May, Sir Patrick Moore, and Chris Lintott, which has sold over 150,000 copies, and Dark Side of the Universe: Dark Matter, Dark Energy, and the Fate of the Cosmos by Iain Nicolson, which has sold over 10,000 copies in the UK and US through our publishing partner Johns Hopkins University Press (reprinting in Spring 2010). Canopus recently produced Brian May and Elena Vidal’s book on Victorian Stereo Photography: A Village Lost and Found (Frances Lincoln, London) – published in late 2009, it has reprinted several times and became the focus for a series of author lectures in the UK and US (in July 2010).
Canopus Academic Publishing (CAP) was established by Robin and Tom Spicer in 2008. CAP’s focus is on research level titles aimed at those working in academia and industry. Working primarily with our publishing partner, Springer Verlag in Heidelberg, Dordrecht and New York, CAP covers all aspects of physics and the physical sciences, and has particularly strong links with the physics community in the UK. Books published include research monographs, graduate level texts, and major reference works which run to several thousand pages, such as the forthcoming Handbook of Visual Displays Technology. At the start of 2010 CAP was asked by Springer to extend commissioning activities into astronomy and astrophysics; we now have a fast growing list in these fields.
